Sermon

The Nine Elements of a Combat Environment

Bro. Joe Holden · Friday Morning Service · October 9, 2026 First sermon in the recording Introduction: Equipped for spiritual battle The Christian life includes spiritual conflict affecting our homes, families, churches, and ministries. Our enemy is not other people, and our weapons are not merely human. Drawing on his military experience, Bro. Holden describes nine pressures believers may encounter and calls the church to stand in God’s strength. Scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:4.

Read Ephesians 6:10–18 in the KJV
  1. 01

    Personal Discomfort

    • God’s work of separating us from the world can feel uncomfortable, especially when others do not understand.
    • Remember that He is bringing us not only out of the world, but into closer fellowship with Himself.
  2. 02

    Violent, Unnerving Sights and Sounds

    • Shocking events and painful disappointments can shake churches and individuals.
    • Carry on, remembering who called you and His promise never to leave His people.

    Scriptures: Hebrews 13:5; Matthew 28:20.

  3. 03

    Confusion

    • The “fog of war” can leave us uncertain about our place or direction.
    • When circumstances become confusing, stand firmly in what God has already made clear rather than abandoning your position.

    Scripture: Ephesians 6:13–14.

  4. 04

    Communication Breakdown

    • Confusion can keep us from hearing needed instruction.
    • Remain attentive to God’s Word and receive the warnings and encouragement He gives.

    Scripture: Ephesians 6:17–18.

  5. 05

    Casualties

    • Seeing people turn away from God should move us to compassion and sober self-examination, not complacency.
    • Let their struggles remind us to take heed, depart from sin, and draw near to the Lord.

    Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 10:12; 2 Timothy 2:19; James 4:8.

  6. 06

    Fear and Stress

    • Fear can immobilize us and hinder our response to God.
    • Bring those fears to the Lord and seek the power, love, and soundness of mind He supplies.

    Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:7.

  7. 07

    Isolation

    • We can be surrounded by worshippers yet feel completely alone.
    • Do not let painful experiences convince you that nobody understands. Allow God to help you through faithful, caring people.
  8. 08

    Continuous Operations

    • Unrelenting responsibilities can produce exhaustion, bitterness, and discouragement.
    • Make room for renewal in God’s presence. Allow others to minister to you rather than continually giving without receiving.
  9. 09

    Homesickness

    • The hope of heaven gives purpose to perseverance. We will not always carry these burdens.
    • Bro. Holden’s account of returning home from military service points toward the greater joy of being with the Lord.

    Closing Challenge

Put on the whole armour of God, keep listening to His Word, and seek His renewing presence in prayer. Do not surrender your place in the battle.

Hold to the hope of heaven and continue trusting Jesus. Heaven will be worth the journey.

Sermon

The Supreme Emotion

Bro. Bruce Maguire · Friday Morning Service · October 9, 2026 Second sermon in the recording Introduction: That I may know Him Paul valued knowing Jesus above everything he had lost. His deepest desire was not merely religious knowledge, but a life found in Christ—knowing the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings. This message calls believers to make knowing Jesus the greatest desire of their lives, shaping their obedience, worship, and trust through every circumstance.

Read Philippians 3:8–10 in the KJV
  1. 01

Experience the Power of a New Life

    • Our righteousness comes through faith in Christ, not through our own merit.
    • The power of the risen Saviour changes who we are and how we live.
    • Saul’s encounter with Jesus transformed him from a persecutor of Christians into a witness proclaiming Christ.
    • Our past does not have to define our future. God’s grace can make us different from the people we once were.

    Scriptures: Philippians 3:8–10; Acts 9:17–20.

  2. 02

Let Love for Christ Shape How You Live

    • We do not live a holy life to earn our way to Christ. We seek to please Him because we already know Him.
    • Obedience should grow from a sincere desire for God, not merely a sense of outward obligation.
    • Like Paul, we should seek a conscience free from offense toward God and others.
    • When we fail, we must acknowledge it, repent, and depend upon the grace that first changed us.

    Scriptures: Acts 24:14–16; 1 Corinthians 15:9–10.

  3. 03

    Know Who Jesus Really Is

    • Knowing religious principles is not a substitute for personally knowing the Lord.
    • Jesus is the eternal Word, the Creator, and the source of life and light.
    • The Gospel accounts reveal His authority to forgive sins, calm storms, and set people free.
    • He is the way, the truth, and the life. Our confidence rests in who He is.

    Scriptures: John 1:1–5; John 14:6; Mark 4:35–41.

  4. 04

Draw Near to Him in Suffering

    • Knowing Christ does not exempt us from sickness, loss, or difficult seasons.
    • Bro. Maguire’s testimony of family illness and bereavement illustrates the need for a relationship with Jesus that reaches beyond good circumstances.
    • The Holy Ghost can meet us in our grief and strengthen us when our own strength is exhausted.
    • Seek not only relief from the trial, but a deeper knowledge of the Saviour who walks with you through it.

    Scriptures: Philippians 3:10; Romans 8:38–39.

    Closing Challenge

Bring your burden to the Lord in prayer. Ask Him to become more than someone you know about—seek to know Him personally and more deeply.

Let that desire shape your obedience, sustain your worship, and strengthen your trust through every storm. Make knowing Jesus the supreme desire of your life.
